The OCZ in the optibay worked for me in the 2010 macbook pro. But the OCZ was a slower sata2 SSD.
My last reply was the experience with a 2012 MBP and a much faster sata3 SSD and in that case -my- problem was fixed by moving the disks, it sure is not a guaranteed fix for everybody in this thread as many factors may play a role.
Was just pointing out that the dvd-rom sata link does not support sata3 well.
See for example also this link. Don't know if a firmware update has fixed it by now, but 3 months ago, the only way to get a reliable SSD to work was by moving it in the main bay.
But yes, you are correct it might entirely have been the fairy dust that I sprinkled over the MBP after moving the disk ...
