Couple of other ideas: 1) What Antivirus are you using?  Is it configured to scan? 2) Is system restore disabled in the guest?

A Virtual Machine can be created/saved to any location one has adequate free disk space and read and write permissions and like any application when it gets to where it's named just use the standard...
