Technically Hardware Version 9 supports 64 GB for systems with 64-bit host operating systems and 8 GB for systems with 32-bit host operating systems and is artificially capped to 8 GB in VMware Fusion however per other VMware employee statements all one has to do is manually set the memsize option in the .vmx configuration file to override this VMware Fusion artificially capped limit with 64-bit version of OS X.
