I haven't applied the latest OS X update and personally usually wait a week or two before applying OS X point updates just to see what issues arise in various message boards, discussion and or support forums however if what happened to you happened to me I try several things like toggling the appropriate settings in the Virtual Machine's settings to see if that alone would correct the issue and if not then uninstall/reinstall VMware Fusion. Note that uninstalling VMware Fusion does not remove any of the Virtual Machines. If neither of those work then I uninstall/reinstall, not repair install, VMware Tools in the Virtual Machine.
