There is no cross-platform upgrade from VMware Workstation to VMware Fusion as VMware Fusion is a lesser product to begin with that does not offer all the features of VMware Workstation. So no matter how you slice it you're downgrading going from VMware Workstation to VMware Fusion however it's what VMware offers for the Mac. If you have no previous version of VMware Fusion then you'll need to pay full price if you can't find some promotional offer.
