Re: High Host CPU Usage running a Windows 7 Guest

Thanks very much for running the tests and collecting the videos.

Since VMware Tools appears cleared at this point, I will forward the internal problem report to the Fusion team for further investigation.

In the meantime, would you please provide answers to the following?

1. What version of Mac OS are you running on the Mac Book 2018?

2. Presumably the VDI disk was created/running on Virtual Box

    - Do you recall what version of Virtual Box that was?

    - Is there anti-malware application(s) on the Win 7 VM and if so what?

Thanks again for taking the time to provide details.

Hi,

I don't recall what version it was created with. The OS is 10.14. Really not much has been installed on Windows 7, just Photoshop.

I could create a new Windows 7 VM from scratch, but it's such a pain.

With the upgrade to Fusion 11 it now runs on my iMac. Unfortunately it is too slow to be playable. FPS are around 5 and there are sound loops. It is especially bad when there are lighting effects and better when directing the camera at the ground.

Settings are all set to minimum, resolution 1280*720. It runs on an iMac from 2015 with a 3.3GHz i5, 24GB of RAM, and a Radeon R9 M395X with 4GB, all well above the recommended spec (let alone minimum requirements). The VM has all four cores, 16GB of RAM and 3GB of the video RAM. 3D acceleration is enabled.

Any ideas on what I could try, or anyone who got it to work?

Since the .vdi was created and running under Virtual Box, I am wondering if there is some VB specific driver, application or service that was automatically installed and if that could be result in a spew of interrupts.

  * Power on the Win 7 VM so that the problem is actively occurring

  * On the host, launch a terminal and run the command:

    - sudo powermetrics --show-all -n 5 -u /tmp/powermetrics.txt

    Enter your password if prompted.

  * Wait for the "powermetrics: to finish, approx. 25 seconds.  Nothing will be displayed.

The resulting text file, at /tmp/powermetrics.txt, may show something of interest.

Thanks.  I have attached the zip file to the internal problem report.

WiseManja,

2 years ago (2 Nov 2016 2:55pm), you apparently posted the contact information for an Apple employee that had assisted you purchasing Snow Leopard Server ("SLS"), but then apparently a VMware moderator deleted such contact information.

Do you still have the contact information you posted?

If so, would you please send it to me directly?

I host without charge several non-profits and suddenly have need to purchase and least one, maybe five, copies of SLS.

Any assistance you can give would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your time and efforts.

May God bless your day.

(I tried to message you directly, but that did not seem to work.)

I'm getting the same issue.  It's happened twice now where the VMware-vmx consumes 100%++ cpu.  The VM is actually booting at this time and is using 100%. Windows 10 desktop with nothing much in the way of apps running.

New VMs (8.1 & 10) won't recognize mouse or keyboard

Macbook Pro, MacOS Mojave 10.14

Fusion Pro 8.5.10

I created new VMs after upgrading both MacOS and Fusion. It was doing it before, but my company mandated the new OS and I read a suggestion to upgrade Fusion. No old VMs to test, unfortunately.

On another thread, I read a suggestion to go to 'System Preferences', 'Security', 'Accessibility' and grant Fusion permissions - I never found that option, where did I go wrong? (no idea if it will fix anything, but I'll try most anything at this point. Hard to do real work without the Windows apps..  ;-)

Any other advice or suggestions?

Thanks!

Yes, you have Fusion Professional. The additional function of Fusion Professional is it allows you to connect to an ESXi server. The non-pro Fusion does not have that capability. You should see a "Connect to Server..." under the File Menu (keyboard shortcut ⌘-K) which is the way to connect to an ESXi server.

Yes, you are free to delete the DMG after it is installed. If for whatever reason you need to re-download the Fusion/Fusion Pro installation disk image, you can always go to your "My VMware" account.

Fusion 11 cannot map keyboard for Windows 10

I have tried the same keyboard mappings in Fusion 11 as I had in Fusion 8 for a Windows 10 virtual machine but cannot get them to work. Are there additional steps needed in Fusion 11? What else might I be missing?

Installing windows 7 from scratch seemed to fix the issue. Was probably the vdi to vmdk conversion, something in there vmware doesn't like.

Upgrading from Fusion 8.5 to 11 / Skype for Business deactivates graphics HW acceleration

Hello All,

I was using Fusion 8.5 with a Windows 10 and Office 365 VM, everything was fine.

Yesterday I upgraded to Fusion 11.

I upgraded the VM compatibility from level 12 to 16.

Since then, all is OK except when I launch the Office 365 version of Skype for Business (v16), even with no windows opened (running on the background).

I think the graphic HW acceleration is turned off by Skype for Business, because everything is sluggish, if I move a windows or if I move the mouse over buttons, there is a huge lag.

If I quit Skype for Business all is back to normal.

Any ideas ?

Thank for your help.

PS : HW acceleration is not disabled in the Office app options.

Jerome

This worked for me.  Thank you!!!  Same issue.  Upgraded from 10 to 11 and then "Internal error".  To note I'm not on Mojave, but High Sierra.
