Based on what I saw in the vmware.log file the base virtual hard disk "Windows 7.vmdk" file is severely corrupted and also the "Windows 7-000002.vmdk" file points directly to the "Windows 7.vmdk"...

Windows 8 requires Boot Camp 5, which requires 10.8.3. I don't believe Fusion 4 supports Windows 8 either. Time to upgrade OSX and Fusion, reinstall windows 8, then try again.
