Sorry, I didn't intend to post the message then.
You could have simply edited the OP without having to post a reply to the OP to finish. Look under Actions in the upper right quadrant of the web page and in subsequent posts in the Thread there is an Edit link in each reply.
I am wanting to increase the size of the virtual hard disk for my VM but I am not able to do so. A message appears stating "The virtual disk file is missing". The VM works fine and I'm able to take snapshots which everything I read states this error when the VMs do not work.
To help figure out what is what, the best way to provide comprehensive diagnostic information is to use the "Collect Support Information" command from the VMware Fusion (menu bar)> Help > Collect Support Information and then attach the .tgz file it created on your Desktop to a reply post.

I did try to use the vdiskmanager as a KB stated but when I enter that command "sudo /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmware-vdiskmanager -R"; It kicks back this "Diskname or some other argument is missing." yet the KB didn't provide any additional information.
The -R option is to "check a sparse virtual disk for consistency and attempt to repair any errors" not "expand the disk to the specified capacity" which the -x option is used for.
The syntax to expand the disk is as follows:
vmware-vdiskmanager -x 36GB myDisk.vmdk
