Re: migration failed using fusion5

If you have a Windows 8 Pro DVD then just create a new Windows 8 Virtual Machine and install the OS just as if doing so on a Physical Machine.  If it's an OEM System Builders DVD being used with the Personal Use License then it will be a straight forward install.  However if its Upgrade Media then you'll need to use one of the workarounds available to get it properly activated.  Keep in mind that while one can clean build with Upgrade Media one is still required to conform to the EULA in that you must own a qualifying version to upgrade from and that existing version can no longer be used elsewhere after the upgrade.  Also upgrading an OEM version with Retail Upgrade Media does not then allow to be transferred to another system as the OEM EULA is still in effect and you'd need to use an OEM System Builders DVD used with the Personal Use License to legitimately clean build a Virtual Machine if what you have presently on the physical system is an OEM version.

If using Upgrade Media, what I'd do it temporarily set the VM's Network Adapter to Host Only (Private to my Mac) to keep Windows from phoning home during the install and do not enter the Product Key during the install.  Then use the information in the "Activate Windows 8 Pro Upgrade" section of "Windows 8 Upgrade: clean install possible?" to activate Windows changing the Network Adapter to NAT (Share with my Mac) after step "Type slmgr /rearm on the command line and hit enter" and just before step "Reboot Windows now" and upon reboot then do the last step "Run the activation utility afterwards, enter your product key to activate Windows".  Note that you should not use the Easy Install feature and also install VMware Tools before preforming the activation steps.
