Darius, I know I'm taking this a bit out of context however OS X can indeed handle filenames with a slash (see image below), it's Windows that can't. Although I always try avoiding it nonetheless it happens often when saving webpages although this is in OS X and not when using VMware Fusion per se. What's interesting is while at the GUI level it shows a / it is written in the filesystem as a : (colon).
