- Should be “-T fusion” whereas I'm using "-T ws"
To clarify why are are incorrect
- (TESTED) "-T fusion" and "-T ws" do not produce different results with this call
While using the incorrect parameter with the -T
flag may indeed work nonetheless since the documentation clearly and plainly states on page 9 ofUsing vmrun to Control Virtual Machines (vix112)...
On Workstation and VMware Fusion, vmrun controls guest operating systems on the local host. You do not need to specify a remote host name or port. Use the
-T
flag for Workstation, Player, and VMware Fusion:
vmrun -T ws
vmrun -T player
vmrun -T fusion
Therefore as a professional programmer I consider using ws
while programing for VMware Fusion to be wrong!

- Options within that group can be used but only one
To clarify why are are incorrect
- (TESTED) In this case the options can be used together and each has a specific task to perform
If you want to take out of context what I said and focus all of your attention on "options within that group can be used but only one" then you can wrongly consider it wrong however looking at my entire comment on that particular part of the overall command line since I qualified what I said by saying I hadn't tested it and was making my observation based on a very valid interpretation of syntax while finishing with "Like I said, I haven tested however that's how I'd read the syntax of the command until I tested it." then it's not a matter of what I said being correct/incorrect as the statement taken as a whole was meant more to be informational. There are languages where what I said about syntax are true and of course not everyone conforms to the same syntactical paradigm.

- The information was not correct for the product I'm using
To clarify why are are incorrect
- (TESTED) The original link gave enough information for this particular task but I will definitely use your link for future reference
The vix162_vmrun_command.pdf is for VMware Fusion 2.0 and by your Tags you're using VMware Fusion 5.0.3 and since there is actually vmrun documentation that states it for VMware Fusion 5 as the vix112_vmrun_command.pdf does then again as a professions programmer I consider using an outdated document for a version 3 versions older the one being use when there is current documentation available to be inappropriate and I find your rationalization to be flawed. But then again I guess I should remember that you said "I’ll preface the question by stating that I’m a front-end programmer that doesn’t have a whole lot of experience with the command-line, especially through Terminal" so I really shouldn't expect much!
Not to worry, I'll not waste my time agin trying to help you!
