Hi,
Unfortunately I can't help you with the retina issues (I hope somebody jumps in who can) as I don't have a retina screen on my new MBP.
Can't see the difference (bad eyes etc..) so bought the serviceable version instead.
Besides I'm a geek and if I can't open it and customize it.. I don't want it

High-DPI is close to useless in Windows, most apps look weird.
I understand what you mean, but this part is not directly Fusion's fault. You are correct that a lot of applications in Windows are not DPI-aware.
High dpi applications on windows are not very common yet.
Surprised to hear that Fusion doesn't have a scaling up option.
In older versions of VMware Workstation I've used that feature several times, but it wasn't on super high resolution. I would expect that option to still linger in the configuration somewhere. There certainly are settings you can experiment with. The question is if you want to spent the time on that.
Here's an article that might help, there's also a setting discussed in there about a 2nd screen.
Adding video resolution modes to Windows guest operating systems
But if I'm reading it correctly then it does scale, just doesn't look great.
Hopefully somebody with a retina screen and a good set of eyes will pick this topic up with a more satisfying answer.
