If one chooses "More Seamless" as one walks through the New Virtual Machine Assistant then by default under Sharing the User's Home Folder is automatically shared with Read & Write privileges and Mirrored Folders are set for Desktop, Documents, Music and Pictures.  Also under Default Applications all check boxes are checked, "Open your Mac files and web links using Windows applications", "Open your Windows files and web links using Mac applications" and in supported versions of VMware Fusion "Enables launching of Windows applications directly from the Mac Applications folder." however that said and the fact that Joh_Mark mentioned 'I have followed the instructions and enabled the "seamless integration" feature' and reasonably assuming he has not changed the default settings that allows for what he's trying to do nonetheless...  If Microsoft Office is installed in both OS X and a Windows Virtual Machine regardless of having the correct and proper settings in the Virtual Machine the default for Office Documents is the OS X version and therefore what I previously presented is the necessary workaround!
