Thanks so much for the info!
My paranoia when it comes to hard drive backups has me to where I make sure anything important is backed up redundantly, so I'm usually well aware of the amount of space the particular drive I'm using has remaining. While the workaround of ejecting the nearly full drive worked in this case and would in most cases, there are times I could be using it at the same time doing a copy. I appreciate you sharing the logic behind why this problem exists--makes perfect sense.
