Roughly eight months later, it looks like we still have no response to this.
I have the same issue. Unity mode is great, but I definitely do NOT need a Windows taskbar on all eight of my desktop workspaces.
Hopefully someone from VMware takes a look at this, someday. It's a pretty standard feature of Lion, and I'd like support for it.
