OS X symbolic link: Access is denied

Within my Windows VM, when I try to look at or copy a symbolic link that's on my OS X file system I get an "Access is denied" error.

Can I change this so that the symbolic link file can be looked at and copied?

I'm not interested in following the symbolic link.

I'm using OS X 10.7.5, Fusion 5.0.1 and WIndows XP 2002 SP3.

FWIW: I'm using a folder comparison tool (Beyond Compare) in my Windows VM, and I want it to be able to compare and copy symbolic links.
