I was hoping to run Windows 7 64-bit in fullscreen on a MacBook Pro Retina, then scale up UI elements, but when I switch to full screen from a window view the existing resolution of the window is scaled up into the full screen view; in other words, the resolution doesn't change, the window just scales up to fit the screen. I'm using VMWare Fusion 5.0.2 on OS X 10.8.2, and VMWare Tools on the guest OS are up to date. I did a complete install of VMWare Tools, since once in a great while this VM does get moved to and ran on a Windows 7 host system.
Once in full screen, I can set the resolution inside the guest OS, but for some reason the max resolution I can set is 2560x1920. I found a KB article ( http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003 ) that suggested a way to change this, but if I set svga.autodetect to FALSE the maximum resolution available in the guest is 1440x900. A registry search for the vmx_svga key didn't find such a key anywhere in the registry, which seems peculiar, unless this KB article no longer applies to Fusion 5.
I'm stumped. I can still use a different resolution to improve the look of Windows 7 in full screen, but I'd like to see if I can get things a bit more crisp with 2880x1800 resolution and upscaled UI elements.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dave
