Over the time what I have learned on this particular topic is that:
The cdrom bay in a macbook 2012 doesn't really like sata3. It can happily serve a normal hard disk drive, but if you populate the optibay with a fast sata3 SSD then the controller tends to choke on that. My current intel SSD has problems on OSX when put in the optibay.
What worked very well for me was to:
- Move the standard 7200 rpm harddisk that came with the macbook pro into the optibay
- Put the SSD into the bay where your normal harddisk is
After that, everything worked as expected and was very stable (at least for me)
