Unless you need the few extra features that VMware Profession offers then IMO it's a total waste of money! The Virtual Network Editor is a lacking some of the features compared to the one in VMware Workstation, so unless you need to also run restricted VM's and or run under VMware Player commercially then the extra $50 is just not worth it! I'd gladly pay the extra $50 just for a full fledged and fully functional Virtual Network Editor that is no less then what's included in VMware Workstation. After asking for one for over 6 years now and only getting a partially functional one which does nothing more then my own scripts alread do and to still have to rely on my own scripts to make the necessary networking changes while also no longer having VMDKMounter... It's sad that I have to mount my VMware virtual disks with the competitors Parallels Mounter and or manually extract and install the one from v3.x.
When v5 first came out one could upgrade to Professional for the $50, normally $100, and that was certainly a good deal if one needed the additional features however I still find I need to continue to use VMware Fusion, Parallels Desktop and VirtualBox and it would really be nice if there was actually one Manufacture that would just include all the bells and whistles the others have and only have to install and use one virtualzition product from one manufacture. It will probably never happen.
Don't get me wrong, VMware Fusion is a good product and probably meets the needs of most ordinary Mac users however IMO they all fall short for the technical and professional user if one has to rely one other simliar products and continue to modify via scripting or manually and not via a GUI. This is also true for Parallels Desktop and VirtualBox although since VirtualBox is free I can't really complain about it in particular!
