I think so - if you have links to the VMX files clicking on them should launch Fusion and launch the VM

VMWare 7.1.1 & OS X 10.10.3 crashes when iMac goes to sleep overnight

$

VMWare 7.1.1 is causing the OS X 10.10.3 to not wake up during sleep mode overnight.

I am running a late 2013, 27" iMac with 32MB of memory.

I have 2 VMs, Windows 7 & Windows 10 beta.

I am running the VMs with 2 processors and 6GB of memory.

Either one of these Windows operating systems causes the iMac to crash when asleep overnight.

If VMWare is completely shut down (as well as all Windows OS), then the iMac does not crash when asleep overnight.

This has to be a VMWare issue.

I see similar posts for the last few years with Mavericks OS.

Does anyone have a solution for these crashes?

Here is some of the crash log:

Hi Chapyaz, and welcome to the VMware Communities!

Could you please upload a zipfile of everything in your host's /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ ?  I'd like to take a look.

Thanks,

Hi Herojig,

Welcome to Fusion Community.

Could you please let me know how many processor cores you give to the VM? If possible, would you please increase VM processor cores? By shut down VM->VM settings->Display

Best Regards

Candy

Re: VMWare Fusion 7.1.1 (latest version) with a Windows 7 guest and USB 3.0?

There seems to be a confusion on my part. "While some devices come with extra drivers for USB3 support under Windows 7, these drivers are not guaranteed to work when running under VMware Fusion. At this time VMware Fusion does not provide a Windows 7 specific USB3 driver to the guest. " What I actually need is the driver for the virtual port, not the actual USB3 device. Something like a "Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller" driver, not a "WD My Passport Essential SE USB 3.0" driver. Wouldnt Apple provide this? Since I could not get it to work, I made a raw disk mapping. From what I understand, this should use the OS X USB 3.0 drivers (since it is plugged into OS X) and give me near native speeds. But I actually see horrible speeds..... I used this: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2097401 It does catch my eye that you dont recomend this. Currently, what is being used, is downgrading the virtual port to USB 2.0 but of course, no USB 3.0 speeds....

As this is an issue even for my Linux VM:s where i do not have "3D acceleration" enabled, i do not see that as the reason behind the issue.

As described in first post, this affects ALL VM:s, not only windows VM.

I have 9 different VM:s, in my Fusion installation.  One of them is windows based, the rest are different versions of Linux.

All the linux variants does not have 3D acceleration enabled (as those are mostly in terminal based mode anyway running server software for developments and tests).

Sending over one more screenshot, this time from an CentOS based VM, as can be seen, the VM is running, the preview in the VM Library window is visible and always shows up there (reflecting what you have or do in the VM), but the actual VM window is black. If i click inside the window, i can of course do stuff, but only way to see what is happening is to look at the preview in the VM Library window or enable VNC connection to the VM and use a VNC client.

Hi schwine,

Thanks for using Fusion. After making sure checked all in the Mirrored Folders, you can shut down VM, quit Fusion, and then restart it. If it works, you should see the mp3 file that in your mac desktop appears in your VM desktop or access it by the VM shared Folders that appears in your VM desktop . There is no need to drag it.

Thanks

Candy

Hello,

Welcome to Fusion Community.

3D rendering is not available in some guest os. Please refer to the fusion 7.1.1 release notes(VMware Fusion 7.1.1 Release Notes), it mentioned that

For Linux guests, only the following distributions are currently supported for virtual hardware version 11:

      • Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and above
      • Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS and above
      • Fedora 20 with latest updates and above

Thanks

Candy

Hi hanssonrickard,

Thanks for your reply.

I have upgraded to 10.10.4(14E7f), and it is fine in my Mac.

Could you please try to downgrade the hardware version from 11 to 10? You can edit .vmx file and change the line "virtualHW.version = 11" to "virtualHW.version = 10". Please let me know if it can help.

Thanks

Tang

And here is the dmesg log regarding vmware. I don't know if it's relevant.

Attached is the Diagnostics in the Log file for a period of 4/23/15 to 4/24/15 in a Word file.

The crash occurred about 3:54:19am on 24 Apr 2015.

I had to do a reboot of the system at 8:16:27am on 24 Apr 2015.

The system hung at 3:54:19am.

I went to bed about 12:00pm on the 23rd and about 4 hours into the sleep mode, the system hung/crashes.

Any ideas would be sure help.

The system crashes overnight when VMWare is running.

If VMWare is not running, there are no crashes.

something happened and it's fixed?  I started the guest and it was a black screen. I'm having a problem mounting a DVD on the host computer so I turned off the CD/DVD on both guest OSs and then I accidentally double clicked the title bar of the guest OS, the screen resized and poof! ....the black screen went away and it's fixed.... honestly I don't have a clue what happened but it's back. I would say it has to do with the resize of the screen not the DVD issues.
